Local Girl Scout Troop Earns Prestigious Silver Award
Honored on 10.3.18 at Town Council Meeting

Girl Scout Cadettes Keelyn Boström, Dariana Garcia, Tamia Louissaint, and Joelle Tone from Hopatcong Troop 94074 have earned the Silver Award. The Silver Ward is the highest level award for Cadettes and involves individual work of at least 40 hours and tremendous dedication to a cause. The girls created 100 birthday boxes filled with party supplies for children who may not otherwise be able to celebrate their birthdays. The birthday boxes included items the girls felt would help make someone’s birthday special such as birthday hats, napkins, candles, favors, free ice cream coupons from Cliff’s Homemade Ice Cream and Dunkin Donuts gift cards. In addition, the boxes included a blank birthday card so the person who received the box could pass it along to someone else in order to help them celebrate their special day also. The birthday boxes also included a friendship kit with items meant to represent friendship and a photo of the troop as a personal touch with the troop email to contact them if interested. The girls worked with their schools, churches, family and friends in order to receive items to be donated to be included in the boxes. Troop 94074 also ran events with younger Girl Scouts in which birthday cards and boxes were decorated and used to fill with the supplies. The 100 birthday boxes were distributed to DASI, Jersey Battered Women’s Services and St. Peter’s Orphanage to be shared with children in need. The girls will be honored at the monthly town council meeting on Wednesday, October 3rd at 7:30 p.m.
