Newton Medical Center Open For Visitors—​​With Restrictions

After months of having to leave patients alone, loved ones are now allowed in.

NEWTON, NJ - Back in March they closed their doors to visitors in an effort to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Atlantic Health Systems, which operates the Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Newton Medical Center, Chilton Medical Center and Hackettstown Medical Center, is allowing visitors in to see patients.

But with restrictions.

As the executive orders surrounding COVID-19 are loosening, Atlantic Health System has implemented the following requirements for all hospital visitors to patients not hospitalized for COVID-19:

  • All visitors will be screened for both temperature and symptoms upon entering the facility.
  • Any non-patients who fail the screening will not be allowed entry into the facility. If they pass, visitors/support persons will be limited to non-COVID patients only.
  • One visitor/support person will be permitted per patient at a time, unless:
  • The patient is a minor, in which case the pediatric patient may have both parents or guardians, or
  • At the facility’s discretion, a limited number of additional persons is determined to be appropriate
  • All visitors must be 18 years of age or older except in rare exception as determined by the facility
  • All visitors will be required to wear face coverings and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They may wear their own cloth mask, or we will provide them with a mask. Any visitor refusing to wear a mask or other PPE as indicated will be asked to leave the facility.
  • Visitation hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Once in the hospital or facility, visitors shall remain in the patient’s room (or Emergency Department bay) as much as possible throughout the visit, except when directed by hospital or facility staff to leave during an aerosol-generating procedure or other procedures in which visitors are usually asked to leave. Visitors may use the cafeteria and other amenities available to patients or visitors.\
