NJ Weather: Winter Weather Advisory Issued As Storms Expected

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory in New Jersey, but storms are expected throughout the state.

NEW JERSEY – A winter weather advisory was issued in New Jersey as some snow and stormy conditions are expected to hit the state.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Sussex County with snow expected in North Jersey. But heavy rain is expected elsewhere.

  • Freezing rain is expected. Total ice accumulations are expected to be around one tenth of an inch.
  • The winter weather advisory is supposed to begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and expire at 4 p.m. on Monday.
  • Difficult travel conditions are possible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning commute.

The storm was forecast to bring whiteouts to the Upper Midwest and then re-energize in the northeastern United States with heavy rain for part the mid-Atlantic, according to AccuWeather.

A thorough soaking is in store from eastern Pennsylvania and eastern New York state to New Jersey and southern New England, according to AccuWeather. From 1 to 2 inches of rain is anticipated, according to AccuWeather.

The period from Sunday night into Monday afternoon is likely to be miserable with drenching rain, foggy episodes and a brisk easterly wind, according to AccuWeather.

People commuting should be prepared for urban flooding and travel delays on the highways and at the airports, according to AccuWeather.

  • Sunday: Light rain likely, mainly after 5pm. Cloudy, with a high near 44. East wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Sunday night: Rain, or freezing rain/snow in the north. The rain could be heavy at times. Areas of fog. Low around 40. East wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Monday: Periods of rain, or freezing rain/snow in the north. The rain could be heavy at times. Areas of fog before 10am. High near 46. East wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Monday night: Rain likely before 7pm, then showers likely, mainly between 7pm and 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. East wind 7 to 13 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Tuesday: A slight chance of showers before 1 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 47. West wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent
