Police Probe 'Suspicious Incident' at Gas Station

Police are asking residents if they have been overcharged by a local station.

Hopatcong Police are asking residents if they have been overcharged by the Enrite gas station following a “suspicious incident” there earlier this month.

According to Lt. Thomas Kmetz, a man purchased gas at the station on July 7 for $40.58. The victim found it suspicious that the attendant went inside to retrieve a receipt instead of getting one from the pump, Kmetz said.

Three days later, the victim realized the station charged him $40.58 and an additional $20, Kmetz said. The man went back to the station and the attendant gave him $20 cash from his pocket, Kmetz said.
