Taylor Ham (Or Pork Roll?) Ice Cream Exists. One NJ Farm Has It
Part of Windy Brow Farms "Only In Jersey" line, the salty and savory confection can be ordered online.

SUSSEX COUNTY, NJ - It is a sweet and savory ice cream that blends bits of meat into the confection, and while Windy Brow Managing Partner Jake Hunt is aware of the name debate, he doesn't take a side despite the fact his farm sells Taylor Ham and French Toast ice cream.
"Frankly, we don't care what people call it as long as they try it," he told Patch.
The Hunt family originally developed Taylor Ham & French Toast as part of an "Only in Jersey" collection that they released in the Spring/Summer of 2018.

"That featured different flavors that contained quintessential 'Jersey' ingredients," hunt said. "We did a Tomato Pie flavor that summer which was downright crazy, along with a Sweet Corn and Honey flavor, and Blueberry Buttermilk, and a Cranberry Creamsicle, which were all relatively normal, and highlighted the bulk of the produce that Jersey is known for."
That creativity led to the Taylor Ham flavor, which hunt says has led to an uptick in sales.

"I think people are looking for something to get them out of the house, yet still stay relatively local, and what better way to do that than come out to the farm and enjoy a sweet and salty scoop," he said.
Windy Brow, named for its windy location on the brow of a ridge, was originally operated as a dairy farm in the late 1800s. The first fruit trees were planted by the Inslee family in 1920. When the original dairy barn was destroyed by fire in the 1940s, the Inslee’s decided to concentrate on fruit growing, and establish one of the first retail fruit farms in Sussex County. Many of the original trees are still bearing fruit today.
Hunt says that more flavors are coming soon.
"We'll probably release Sweet Corn & Honey in the coming weeks, that seems to be a popular one and one we do every summer, along with that, Basil & Sweet Cream will come out at the same time, and then we'll likely do a flavor with beets and honey and maybe goat cheese a little later in the season," he said. "But haven't quite worked out all the flavor ideas floating around in our heads yet."
Hun also noted that while not "necessarily crazy" they produce some staple flavors like Honey Lavender, and Burnt Honey Pistachio, and Earl Grey & Shortbread that people seem to flock to.
But the extra business generated by the "wacko" flavors are something hunt says they appreciate.
"We're thankful to have an adventurous community around us that, while there are some tayham haters, don't immediately shut down to trying crazy things," he said.
The farm is located at 359 Ridge Road Newton and be reached at (973) 579-9657. Orders are also available on their website.
