JERSEY CITY, NJ — Happy Monday, Jersey City! There are plenty of events happening around the city this week, so Patch rounded up a list of the important dates to remember, so you don't miss the fun!

City Meetings

  • Monday: Council Caucus meeting. Virtual from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Tuesday: Planning Board meeting. Virtual from 5:30 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
  • Wednesday: City Council meeting. Virtual from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Events

  • Monday: Virtual INKubator New Play Festival
    • This event is part of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance 2021 Stages Festival, made possible by support from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts; Bank of America; The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey; OceanFirst Foundation; the George A.   • Tuesday: Birth of a Picture Book
    • Join Yangsook Choi as she takes the audience through the creative process of bookmaking: the power of imagination, writing, storyboarding, illustrating, and honing problem-solving skills.
  • Tuesday: Halal Hot Dog Book Launch and Author Event
    • Celebrate the launch of the latest book from our very own author and Youth Services Librarian, Susannah Aziz. Youth Services staff members will interview Ms. Susannah about her hilarious and heart-warming book, Halal Hot Dog. Then we'll take a sneak peek into the book and participate in some silly hot-dog-related activities.
  • Thursday: NJCU BFA 2021 Thesis Exhibition
    • As we mark a full year of extraordinary circumstances that have altered so much, this exhibition of artwork created by the BFA graduates of 2021 celebrates the hope of moving forward. Through challenging times this work shows perseverance, introspection, community, hope and a leap into the future.
  • Friday: Author Chat with Jessica Baggett
    • Join Jessica Baggett, CEO Pro'Ta'jay Productions, as discusses her new book, "The Struggle is Real."
  • Friday: Coded Bias: Documentary Screening and Director Q&A
    • To finish off Choose Privacy Week, join us for a documentary Coded Bias film screening. Coded Bias explores how racial bias exists in facial recognition technology, how artificial intelligence often automates oppression, and how people are protecting civil liberties in the face of algorithms framed as neutral. The documentary has won such prestigious prizes as the GlobeDocs Visionary Filmmaker Award and the Calgary International Film Festival's Audience Choice Award.
