Jersey City Board Of Ed May Change Admissions At McNair, Infinity

The board discussed, at the last meeting, changing the admissions process to allow for more socio-economic diversity in the schools.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Two of Jersey City's most prestigious high schools could see a major overhaul of their admissions process.

The Jersey City Board of Education approved a resolution on Thursday night that would allow the board to take a closer look at the admissions process for McNair Academic High School and Infinity Institute.

Both schools made it onto U.S. News and World Report's top 100 high schools in New Jersey.McNair High School made it onto the list of top 10 best schools in New Jersey and Infinity Institute made the top 20 list in the state, coming in at number 11.

Any proposed changes would not affect current students, but students in class 2026. Two public hearings will be held before any changes are put in place. The first is planned for July 15 and the second for August 23.

Board of Education President Mussab Ali said the idea behind the changes is to promote more socio-economic diversity in the schools.
