Jersey City Kids Gear Up For Annual 'Kids Bike Ride'

The annual ride encourages families to explore the city's protected bike lanes.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City's annual Kids Bike Ride is coming up around the corner and kids and families are getting ready to ride through the city.

The self-directed family ride is scheduled for June 12. The ride is meant to encourage families to explore the city's protected bike lanes.

In 2020, Jersey City started a rollout of protected bike lanes throughout the city using planters, curbs, parked cars, or bollards to physically separate and protect bicyclists from passing traffic in the right-of-way. The city completed 6.7 miles of protected bike lanes and has 2.7 miles planned.

The Kids Bike Ride will have tents along the lanes that will be staffed by city and county agencies including RYD, Planning, HHS, Hudson TMA, and local bike shops like JC Bike Shop and Grove Street Bicycles. Every tent will have giveaways like bike helmets, bicycle bells, coloring books and crayons.

Riders are encouraged to start and end anywhere and must wear a helmet and face masks.
