Liberty Humane Society Rescues 28 Bunnies From Trailer

The person who kept the rabbits in the trailer contacted the rescuers acknowledged that it was best for the rabbits to be adopted.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — The Liberty Humane Society hopped into action, rescuing 28 rabbits from a poorly-ventilated construction trailer in Jersey City.

Almost 30 rabbits, ranging from babies to adults, were being kept in a trailer that sat on a vacant lot in the city. The humane society said in a Facebook post that the person who was keeping the rabbits there acknowledged that it would be better for the animals to be placed for adoption, and called rescuers.

The humane society's Animal Response Team pulled the bunnies from the trailer and got to work performing medical exams, reunited lactating females with their babies and searching for temporary placement for the rabbits until they can be adopted.

"LHS doesn’t have a lot of space to appropriately house highly sensitive animals like rabbits, so we immediately put out a call for rabbit rescue partners, and were overwhelmed by the response!" the post reads.

Several nearby rabbit rescues took on 22 bunnies, leaving Liberty Humane Society with six others to find the perfect forever home. All six are male rabbits and a few even have creative names — the humane society posted photos of three rabbits with the names Luke Skyhopper, Barack O'Bunny, and David Hasselhop.
