Mexican Restaurants In Jersey City To Support On Cinco De Mayo
Cinco de Mayo isn't Mexican Independence Day as many people think, but it is a day many choose to celebrate Mexican culture.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Cinco de Mayo is this Wednesday, May 5, and Jersey City has no shortage of Mexican restaurants that you can support in honor of the holiday.
While many people think Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day it's actually a celebration of the Mexican army's 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. The day isn't largely celebrated or commercialized in Mexico the way it is in the U.S. but it is still an excellent way to celebrate Mexican history, heritage and culture. The official Mexican Independence Day is September 16.

- Los Tres Chilitos
- 456 Central Ave.
- 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Authentic pan-Mexican dishes in a distinctly Oaxacan style, the restaurant name is “The Three Little Chile Peppers” in English, and is named after the three boys of husband and wife owners. Serving breakfast through dinner this is the perfect spot to start or end Cinco de Mayo.

- Open for delivery and takeout Taqueria has excellent margaritas and fish tacos, among other notable menu items. Catering services are available as well.
- Sol Azteca Mexican Food
- 328 Montgomery St.
- 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Fresh tacos with fresh ingredients, this menu offers an array of traditional Mexican dishes as well as bowls and burgers.
- Mezcal Kitchen
- 665 Newark Ave.
- 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- This is a sister location with a restaurant in Bayonne as well, Mezcal offers delicious Mexican food as well as other Latino-inspired plates like pernil and ceviche.
- Orale Mexican Kitchen

- Monday – Thursday 3 p.m.-10 p.m.; Friday 2 p.m.-10 p.m.; Saturday 12 p.m.-10 p.m.; Sunday 12 p.m.-9 p.m.
- With locations in Jersey City and Hoboken, Orale is a trendy Mexican spot that serves traditional food with a twist.
