New Jersey City Field Day Celebrates Dads

The Day of Dad's Field Day event aims to "celebrate and uplift black and brown men in fatherhood, brotherhood and togetherness."

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A new kind of field day is coming to Jersey City, but it's not just for the kids, this one is celebrating dads.

The Dr. Charles A. Johnson, Junior Foundation will be presenting the inaugural Day of Dad’s Field Day event at the Caven Point Sports Complex on August 7. The event will celebrate and uplift black and brown men in fatherhood, brotherhood and togetherness all while having outdoor fun with their children and families.

At the field day, four men will be chosen who were nominated for the “Daddy Makeover” and win makeovers that day.

The event will kick off at 11:00 a.m. and attendees will be able to enjoy music, games, delicious food and community. Guests will be entertained and educated throughout the day on the continued importance of positive male figures within the community and encourage men to engage in self-care including medical and mental health.

"The role of a father in his children's lives regardless of their gender is so paramount to their upbringing."Founder and Director Emerlyn Deline-Johnson said. "With this event, I really want to create an environment where men can feel honored, appreciated and needed."
