The redundance of this saga is becoming to be a bit monotonous but, surprise! We lost power on Linden Avenue in Jersey City today, not once but twice.

It all began around 1:30 pm when, just like days prior, the electricity abruptly went off. Unlike days prior however, it was afternoon and the heat and humidity did not allow for the gathering of neighbors on stoops. Instead, we all stayed quietly in our homes and survived the hour long shut off with the built up cool air trapped within our homes.

As the day went on, at around 4:45 pm, three short hours after the power returned, again we were in powerless. This time however, the wait was a bit longer. Neighbors sat sipping cool drinks, other chatted it up on random life stories and our shared discomfort in today raging heat, all while finding little pockets of shade.

At around 6:30 pm, three service trucks turned onto the street and all the workmen began assessing the lines. After a full assessment, the buckets went up and they got to work. With two new transformers in tow, wires were cut and reattached and by 6:57 pm the electricity was back.

The workmen stayed well past 7:30 pm working on the lines and, giving what hopefully is a permanent solution to a problem that has plagued us for the past three days.

However, it would be remiss of me to not close this piece with this statement. The events of the past three days have been uncomfortable, inconvenient and could have had dangerous consequences. PSEG not only showed up every single time earlier than anticipated but, they fixed the problem every time. With this final day of record heat being the day that they provided an extensive fix, allowing us all to stay cool and safe in our own homes.

Thank you to the wonderful service men at PSEG.
