Slow Down: More Speed Bumps Coming To Jersey City
The city is planning on paving over 20 miles of road and is asking residents for input on which streets should get new speed bumps.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City is pumping the brakes — literally — with a new batch of speed bumps.
Mayor Steven Fulop announced the planned roll-out of new speed bumps, in a Facebook post over the weekend. The city is planning on paving over 20 miles of road and is asking residents for input on which streets should get new speed bumps.
In the post, Fulop included a photo of the working list of speed bump requests in the city — so far there have been 46 requests filed. Streets requested range from Van Nostrand Ave to Bramhall Ave. The city is accepting more requests and is encouraging residents to contact their ward's city councilperson.

The request for a speed bump includes a petition for the neighborhood that would be affected — whoever pulls the petition should aim to get about 30 signatures, depending on the size of the neighborhood.
The comment section of the post was quickly flooded with requests from residents.

"Please make sure they’re not too high, like what happened in the Heights, they had to get redone," said one user.
"Need on St Pauls Ave and Liberty Ave ! Crazy drivers, people crossing the street have to dodge cars that do not stop at the stop sign and speed through," wrote another.
The mayor wrote that a timeline and exact locations for the next round of street paving will be available next week.
