Stack Creamery Is Officially Open In Jersey City's Heights

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A new ice cream shop is open in The Heights and is bringing some new flavors to the neighborhood.

Stack Creamery is an ice cream shop that specializes in customizable ice cream sandwiches as well as cones and bowls. The first location in Westwood opened in March. Despite a slow roll with the pandemic restrictions, co-owner Mohamed Elnakib said the shop focused on its online presence and built a website to help guide customers through the customizing process.

Stack Creamery is a family business, co-owned by Mohamed and his brother and sister, Sohail and Sondos. The Elnakib family lived in Jersey City for about six years.

"We feel like we're kind of coming home now," Mohamed said.

The Heights location polished off its finishing touches over the last few months the shop opened this week at 465 Central Avenue. All cookies and brownies at Stack are made from scratch and Mohamed said he and his siblings put plenty of time, effort and debate into the perfect batch.

"We each have a different idea of what the perfect ice cream sandwich is, so we would debate all the time," he said.

From their debates, the idea for customizable ice cream sandwiches was born. Mohamed is a fan of the classics and sticks to chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream and mini chocolate chips. Sondos prefers mint-centric sandwiches and Sohail loves everything Oreo and cookie — so the siblings decided to make an ice cream shop that offers all that and everything in between.

The Elnakibs are excited to share the sandwiches with the community and Mohamed said one of the appealing factors of The Heights was the abundant support for local businesses in the area.

"There's a lot of local support for businesses on Central Avenue, and we want to be part of that," Mohamed said.
