Where to Beat The Heat In Jersey City

Temperatures will be in the high 90s and storms are expected to follow the extreme heat.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A heat wave is sweeping through New Jersey and temperatures are expected to climb past the 90s in Jersey City. Several towns and counties are opening cooling centers where residents can go to beat the heat. It's also advised that you check on your neighbors to see if they need help.

Jersey City has several locations where seniors, residents experiencing homelessness and those looking to stay out of the heat can cool down. This week's heat wave happens to coincide with the reopening the Maureen Collier and Joseph Connors senior centers. Both centers will be available for seniors to participate in programming and events, as well as a safe place to beat the heat.

The senior centers are open daily from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and the addresses are listed below:

A heat advisory has been issued across the state from Monday at noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday as heat index values (apparent temperature) up to 104 degrees are expected. There are several shelters in the city and nearby which can also be used to escape extreme heat as well. The addresses are listed below:
