Jersey City Woman's Son Charged In Her Murder Following Fire

The woman was found critically injured and died of her injuries, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A Jersey City man was charged with the murder of his mother following a fire on Thursday morning. Police are still looking for the man, identified as Terrance Nelson, 29.

According to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, a one-alarm fire broke out in a building on Virginia Avenue just before 1 a.m. but police were called to the building for a report of a disturbance. When officers arrived they found Jacqueline Nelson, 60, in the building’s first floor in critical condition.

She was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where she died of her injuries.

The fire is being investigated by the Regional Arson Task Force.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. The fire was reported under control at approximately 1:21 a.m.

The woman's son was charged with first-degree murder and is still on the loose.
