Woman Found Dead In Apartment After Another Barricaded Herself
Jersey City police are investigating the death of a 78-year-old on Arlington Avenue after another woman wouldn't let them inside for hours.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Jersey City police are investigating the death of a 78-year-old woman who was found in her apartment on Arlington Avenue Saturday night.
The woman, who hadn't been identified as of Sunday afternoon, was found during a welfare check call to the apartment, police said. A 53-year-old woman who also lives there was taken into custody after barricading herself inside the residence, and not allowing police inside, for about three hours, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
The 58-year-old finally let police inside just before 11:30 p.m., Suarez said, when the 78-year-old was found "lifeless." The cause and manner of the woman's death had not been released as of Sunday, with the findings pending an examination by the Regional Medical Examiner.
