ACME Draft House: A Hidden Gem

With the heat index being what it is of late, it is a no-brainer to want to duck in someplace with air condition and knock back a cold one with your lunch, provided you are not on a work lunch hour. This was exactly how my partner and I felt yesterday afternoon, so I pulled into the Berkeley Shopping Center and found the ACME Draft House, in the same strip as Shoprite. Located at 439A Atlantic City Boulevard in Bayville, we found the atmosphere to be very welcoming. Without looking at the drink menu, I quickly ordered a Michelob Ultra, while my future wife went for a Red Stag and Coke.

By the time the drinks returned, I had already decided on the Dogtown lunch special, which is basically 2 hot dogs with fries or chips and cole slaw. I opted for the chips, which was a great choice because of their warmth and crispiness. I just happened to be dying for a hotdog, with the added sauerkraut of course, and the sandwiches didn't disappoint. Meanwhile, Lori went with a hamburger and fries and described them to taste as good as it looked, which the appearance was awesome. She did mention that she should have gotten the chips, because they were just that good! We shared a slice of Gordon's Cheese Cake for dessert, which I would rank just under some of the New York varieties I have had in the past.

Their hours are 11AM until 12AM on Sunday thru Thursday and 11AM until 1AM on Friday and Saturday. Dinner is served from 4PM until midnight. By the way, Friday is Fish Fryday, where you can order a Beer Batter Fish Dinner for $10.99 and receive seconds for free. Tuesday is Taco Tuesday with $2 Tacos, $5 Margaritas and $4 Coronas. Wednesday also offers free seconds for their BBQ Night, while Thursday has 50 cent Wings. A Breakfast Club Menu is also offered daily from 11AM until noon.

I have to try and make it down there one Saturday night because they do present entertainment on that evening. On July 20, Lori T and her Band in a Box will be performing. On the following Saturday, King & Leyden will be appearing. They do run some special events on some other evenings also.
