Tea For Two In Waretown

A Sweet Memory leaves you with great memories after leaving.

My significant other has made frequent visits to A Sweet Memory Cake Shoppe & Tea Room with her sister and female friends. Up until recently, I had only spied upon the Tea Room from the bakery section. Whenever I did gaze upon the room, I noticed that the customers appeared to be only female. Having already tried their incredible cucumber sandwich at a previous food tasting event, I knew that they had an amazing variety of sandwiches that weren't offered at most of the local eateries. Besides, I am 25% English, so a spot of tea could be a good way for me to get in touch with my roots.

So, I invited my fiancée out to lunch and she was surprised to hear that I was taking her to this very special tea room, located at 521 Route 9 in Waretown. I decided to try the Mexican Hot Chocolate Chai and I definitely didn't regret it. Being more of a coffee drinker than a tea drinker, I was pleasantly surprised by not only the spiced aroma, but also the addictive flavor. My lovely date went with one of their varieties of brewed Iced Teas.

While my date decided on getting a Quiche, she had her choice between a Quiche Lorraine, a Vegetarian Frittata or a Harvest Pie. Her dish was accompanied by a Petite Garden Salad, which I should state that there is nothing petite about it. Having one on the side with my lunch choice also, this salad was garnished with cherry tomatoes, onions, cashews, walnuts, pecans, cucumbers and a host of other goodies that I am sure I forgot. Basically, this was my kind of salad!

I went with the Trio Tea Sandwich Sampler. My choices included The Daisy (Fresh Baked Virginia Ham and Swiss cheese with sliced apples and apple butter), The Daffodil (English Cucumbers thinly sliced with Dill Aioli) and The Hibiscus (Homemade Seasonal Cheese Spread). For this day, the Cheese Spread was a crazy-good Cranberry Walnut. While I knew that the Cucumber sandwich was going to be good, the other two were even better.

And then there was dessert. This was where we got to go over to the counter and choose the three petite desserts that we wanted, with a choice among the many Parfait Cups, Cake Truffles, Cheese Cakes, Brownie Bites, filled Chocolate Cups, Tarts and Cupcakes. Of course, we could have chosen a large cupcake, but we both liked the idea of sampling a variety. If I was to choose a single cupcake, it probably would have been the Dark Italian, which is a chocolate cake filled with cannoli cream and topped with chocolate buttercream and a cannoli. Having a healthy main course ensured that we didn't feel guilty about our dessert options.

Also on the menu were Canapes, Scones, Quinoa & Beet Salad, Bacon & Pea Pasta Salad, a variety of soups, as well as many other goodies. And let me not forget the Bacon Jam. Most importantly, the staff treats everyone like family.

After bursting my bubble by finding out that I wasn't the first male customer to eat in the tea room, I read their promise that 12 varieties of cupcakes will be offered everyday. Plus, they are baked fresh daily. They offer a wide variety of cake flavors, fillings and icings that can be ordered, as well. They also do tea for your little ones if they are celebrating a birthday or through their own special events. Not only am I glad that I tried A Sweet Memory for lunch, but I will most definitely be returning. For more information, visit www.asweetmemory.net or call (609) 242 - 0153. How can you not love a place that cuts the crust off your sandwiches like your parents used to do?
