Chick-fil-A Possible On Route 1 In Lawrence
The Lawrence Township Planning Board heard an application from the popular food chain for a proposed location on Route 1 Monday night.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ — Nearly a year after a dean at Rider University resigned after the university said it wouldn’t bring a Chick-fil-A to campus, the popular fast food restaurant might end up in Lawrence Township after all.
The Lawrence Township Planning Board considered an application for a preliminary and final site plan to put a Chick-fil-A at 2950 Brunswick Pike, according to the agenda for Monday night’s meeting posted on the township’s Facebook page.
The application was presented, but the hearing had to be continued until the Jan. 27, 2020 meeting, WPST reports.

The proposal comes 10 months after Cynthia Newman resigned her post as dean of the College of Business Administration at Rider after Rider decided not to allow Chick-fil-A to have a restaurant on campus. Newman said she resigned because Rider’s decision conflicted with her beliefs as a Christian.
Rider had previously sent out a survey asking students what it wanted to see on campus. While initially including Chick-fil-A among its list of options, the university later removed that option as a possibility based on the perception that the restaurant is opposed to the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

The bill called for the death penalty for anyone who commits an act of homosexuality, which has been deemed a crime in Uganda.
