An old-fashioned “ice cream party” and picket fence art show is coming to Howell Living History Farm on Saturday, June 22, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be live music from Jugtown Mountain String Band, horse-drawn wagon rides, games and contests, a children’s craft program, garden fence art show and a lot of ice cream. Parking and admission are free.

In fact, attendees can make their own ice cream, beginning at 11 a.m. Visitors are invited to help draw and grind ice from the farm's icehouse. The first batch of homemade ice cream will be ready for dipping at noon. Ice cream sundaes and floats will be served until 3:30 p.m.

Around the kitchen garden and inside the farm's Visitor Center, artists who have captured the farm's beauty in watercolor, acrylic and oil will display their works during the Friends of Howell Farm's annual Picket Fence Art Show and Sale.

A children's craft program, “Painted Racing Boat,” takes place continuously from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Conditions permitting, races on the farm pond will be held at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., with prizes awarded to the builders of the fastest boats.

There is a $4 materials fee to make the craft. Groups of eight or more who want to participate in the craft program must pre-register. Proceeds from ice cream, rides, children's crafts and art benefit the farm’s restoration projects and educational programs.
