LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — As New Jersey residents navigated the challenging task of securing COVID-19 vaccine appointments, the Mercer County public school districts’ top administrators worked together to do the same for school staff.

The Lawrence Township Public Schools (LTPS) worked with Penn Medicine Princeton Health Center to host a vaccination clinic at Lawrence High School (LHS) on April 6.

Since vaccine availability is usually announced at a short notice, clinic providers had very little time to make logistical plans.

Superintendent Ross Kasun coordinated with LTPS central office and LHS administrators and staff, and Ewing School District Superintendent Michael Nitti, to organize the clinic.

A total of 143 staff received the Moderna vaccine. Second inoculations are scheduled for May 4 at LHS.

Kasun said staff were relieved to receive their vaccine appointment emails.

“I think I can speak for my superintendent colleagues in that we are so pleased we could offer this peace of mind to our staff and add vaccinations to the multiple measures districts have taken to provide safe learning spaces and conditions during these challenging times,” he said.

Mercer County Superintendents who collaborated in this effort include David Aderhold of West Windsor-Plainsboro, Brian Betze of Robbinsville, Mark Daniels of East Windsor, Barry Galasso of Princeton, Joan Kranisky of Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf, Alfonso Llano of Trenton, Michael Nitti of Ewing, Scott Rocco of Hamilton, and Thomas Smith of Hopewell.
