Lawrence Schools Appoints New Director Of Diversity & Inclusion

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — The Lawrence Township Board of Education has appointed a new director of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Clifton J. Thompson III was appointed to the role during the June 30 Board of Education meeting. The district said it was committed to ensuring students can thrive in culturally diverse environments.
“Thompson will be working on important issues that impact the life of the school district, our students, parents, and the community at large,” the school district said in a media release. He will also serve as the district's Affirmative Action Officer and Title IX Coordinator.

Prior to starting in Lawrence, Thompson has also been serving as a consultant with Collaborative Equity Solutions and CREED Strategies.
Thompson began his 25-year career in education as a teacher in the New York City public school system where he taught middle school-aged students who had been retained multiple times.

Nine years later, Thompson became an administrator and has held various roles in elementary, middle, and high schools.
Thompson has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Hampton University, Virginia and a master’s degree in urban education with a specialization in administration and supervision from New Jersey City University.
