No Threat To Safety Ahead Of Weekend Protest: Lawrence Police

Police are working with federal, state and county police to monitor the situation after FBI warned of possible armed protest in Trenton.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Lawrence Township Police Department on Wednesday said there was no “credible threat to safety” of residents in the wake of an FBI warning of possible violence across the country this weekend.

Earlier this week, the FBI warned of possible armed protests that could happen in Trenton and at other state capitols, as well as courthouses and administration buildings, this weekend.

According to the Lawrence police, a protest is scheduled on Sunday at Trenton, and on Jan. 20 during the inauguration of Joe Biden as president.

“I have been in constant contact with our Federal, State, county and local partners, and will continue to monitor these situations,” said police chief Brian M Caloiaro.

Caloiaro said he will constantly provide updates on the situation through social media pages and asked residents to check for information.

Lawrence police will provide “proactive patrols” throughout the township, to “ensure the safety of our community.”

Meanwhile, Trenton Mayor W. Reed Gusciora said on Wednesday that his police department is working with the State Police, the Mercer County Sheriff's Department and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office "as part of a coordinated plan to ensure our safety if any protesters stray beyond the First Amendment right to peaceful protest."
