Nor'easter Impact: Here Are The Snow Totals For Mercer County

As a major storm hit Mercer County, here's what happened across towns.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ – A “major" nor'easter rolled into Mercer County area on Wednesday, bringing with it snow and rain.

The National Weather Service labeled the "major" system a "nor'easter" since it was expected to produce strong, sustained damaging winds and precipitation over a 24-hour period on Wednesday.

Snow began piling up in Lawrenceville, Princeton, Hamilton and other towns, as flurries started around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Here are the snow totals for Mercer County:

  • Pennington 5.5
  • Ewing 5.0
  • Hamilton Twp 4.0
  • West Windsor Twp. 2.5
  • Robbinsville Twp. 2.0

Around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Princeton police closed Quaker Road, from Mercer Road out to Nassau Park Boulevard, due to poor visibility.

Police said they had to assist many vehicles that were disabled on the road throughout Wednesday evening.

The road conditions in Princeton remain hazardous. The department of Public Works is currently clearing out the roads.

No power outages were reported in Mercer County.

Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes called for county administration offices to delay regular opening until 11 a.m. on Thursday because of severe weather.

All branches of the Mercer County Library System, the Mercer County Park Commission, Mercer County Clerk, Mercer County Surrogate, County Connection, One-Stop Career Center and the Mercer County administration building will operate on a modified schedule.

The Mercer County Office of Emergency Management said it continues to monitor the storm, and all essential emergency functions such as road maintenance and law enforcement will continue their work.

Most county schools opted for a snow day.

Princeton Public Schools decided to cancel all-remote learning on Thursday, opting for ‘snow day’. Classes resume on Friday.

In Lawrence Township, the public school district cancelled virtual learning on Thursday for 'snow day', as did the East Windsor Regional School District.

Some parts of New Jersey received more than 11 inches of snow.

The "major" nor'easter hit the Garden State on Wednesday and shut down trains and buses, and caused crashes and other problems. More than 12,000 power outages were reported across the state, and more than 200 crashes were reported.

Here's the forecast for Mercer County:

Thursday: A chance of snow before 10 a.m., then mostly sunny, with a high near 35. North wind 15 to 20 mph, decreasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than 1 inch possible.
