Quaker Bridge Mall Sur La Table Store To Close Permanently

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — The Sur La Table store at the Quaker Bridge Mall is one of two New Jersey stores that will close permanently later this year, according to the kitchen and cookware retailer’s website.

Sur La Table announced on Wednesday that it was filing for bankruptcy. The stores in Lawrenceville and Marlton will be closing permanently in August or September.

They are among 50 stores the company plans to close. Sur La Table will also sell 70 stores to private equity firm, Fortress Investments, according to Business Insider. The store at the Freehold Raceway is the only store in New Jersey that isn’t listed to close.

“This sale process will result in a revitalized Sur La Table, positioned to thrive in a post COVID-19 retail environment,” Sur La Table CEO Jason Goldberger said. “Sur La Table will have a balance sheet and retail footprint optimized to position the Company for a bright future that continues our nearly 50-year tradition of offering high-quality cooking products and experiences to our customers.”

Sur La Table recently reopened as of July 4, amid the coronavirus pandemic. Stores will operate as normal during the sale and closing process, according to the company.

Sur La Table said it is thriving in the e-commerce market, and “believes that it is exceptionally well positioned to thrive in the post-COVID-19 world, as food, cooking and in-home entertainment continue to capture increasing mind share of consumers.”
