Rob Radice Returns As Football Coach At Lawrence

Rob Radice won 84 games when he previously coached the Cardinals.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ - What’s old is new again with the Lawrence Township High School football program.

Rob Radice has returned to coach the Cardinals football team for the 2019 season. The Lawrence alum has been a football coach for 29 years, including 24 at Lawrence. He was the Cardinals head coach for 14 years and an assistant for 10.

He won 84 games during his previous stint with the Cardinals. His last year at Lawrence was in 2013, when his team went 10-1 and made it to the Central Jersey Group 3 championship game.
Radice has been an assistant coach for the past few years, and he jumped at the chance to go home to become a head coach once again.

“There’s nothing like being a head coach,” Radice said. “This is a great opportunity.”

The offensive-minded coach has been coaching quarterbacks and running a quarterback school on his own, but he said he misses the nuances of being the man at the top of the food chain.

He looks forward to coaching under the lights on a turf field on Friday nights (the school didn’t have turf the last time he was the head coach). What he enjoys most about coaching, though, is working with the young men and watching them improve in what he calls the “winning room,” not the weight room.

“I like developing the kids and teaching them how to deal with adversity,” Radice said. “You teach kids life skills. It’s not just a sports thing. I have former players who now doing great things in life, and they say I helped set the tone for that.”

He also looks forward to putting a competitive team on the field each week. He said he hasn’t had the chance to meet all his players yet, but he looks forward to the chance to work with all of them.

Lawrence will open its regular season on Sept. 13 at Hopewell Valley Central. Radice will coach his first game at home the following week, against Hightstown. To view the full schedule, visit maxpreps.com.
