Thieves Try to Steal ATV, Foiled by Sharp Employee

The incident happened on Dec. 14.

An eagle-eyed employee of Kontz Landscaping was able to retrieve an ATV that thieves were attempting to steal, but the alleged thieves got away. 

It happened on Saturday, Dec. 14 around 3 p.m. 

According to Lawrence Police, Kontz Lansdcaping stores some of its equipment at Ewing Plaza. On Saturday, a 28-year-old employee for the landscaping company was driving by the plaza and noticed a pickup truck with one of the company's ATVs in the back. The employee stopped and asked the guys what they were doing.

The men allegedly jumped into the truck and drove away, but not before the employee jumped onto the back of the truck, yelling at them to stop. 

The men drove towards Halo Farm and into an open field, but the truck hit a telephone pole barrier into the field and got stuck.

The men inside the truck ran away. The employee was still in the back, but not injured. 

Lawrence and Trenton Police are investigating the incident.
