(February 2019) –Turning Point Restaurants will again partner with the Kortney Rose Foundation (KRF) to hold the 10th annual fundraiser - “Great Food for a Great Cause” - on Saturday, February 23 and Sunday, February 24 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at all 16 Turning Point locations. Guests at The Turning Point who donate a minimum of $25 to KRF on either of these two days will receive a Turning Point gift card good for two entrées to use during the month of March.
Last year, the event generated more than $74,000 for The Kortney Rose Foundation, which raises funds pediatric brain tumor research in memory of 9 year old Kortney Rose Gillette who died from brain cancer in 2006. Over the years, the Turning Point weekend event has raised in excess of $340,000 for life saving research.
“Year after year our staff and patrons look forward to this fundraiser and their effort and enthusiasm is reflected in the tremendous generosity that is shown at this popular event,” said Kirk Ruoff, who, with his wife, Pam, are owners of Turning Point. The restaurant is one of KRF’s largest corporate partners.
“Turning Point and the Ruoffs have been a staple in our efforts to raise money for kids with brain tumors – the number one cause of death by disease in children,” said KRF’s Founder and Executive Director Kristen Gillette. “We are extremely grateful for the growing community of supporters and the realization that children with cancer deserve more than 4% of the government's National Institute of Health's (NIH) annual research budget.” Gillette said.
KRF was founded by Kristen and Rich Gillette in memory of their daughter Kortney, who died from a brain tumor in 2006. With the Foundation's recent announcement about their 12th annual donation of $145,000 in 2018, they are responsible for nearly $2 million dollars donated to this research. The Kortney Rose Foundation will be funding research on various forms of brain tumors, including Optic Pathway Glioma, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), various high grade gliomas, supporting a novel immunotherapy project, and supporting growth of the Neuro-Oncology program at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).
About The Kortney Rose Foundation
Kortney Rose Gillette was a vivacious nine-year old girl with a winning smile and unparalleled zest for life. She loved playing with friends and animals (stuffed or real) and enjoyed school at Wolf Hill Elementary School in Oceanport, NJ. This didn’t change even after her diagnosis of a terminal brainstem glioma. On April 27, 2006, four months after her diagnosis, Kortney lost her brave battle with this pediatric brain cancer.
The Kortney Rose Foundation is a 501(c) (3) charity that was set up by Kortney’s parents, after her death, to create her legacy of helping other children with brain tumors through the promise of research. Since inception the foundation has built a playground in Kortney’s name, donated nearly $2 Million dollars to the pediatric brain tumor research and helped to establish the world-class Children’s Brain Tumor Tissue Consortium (CBTTC.org). The foundation was also instrumental in passing legislation naming May as brain tumor awareness month in the State of New Jersey. http://www.thekortneyrosefoundation.org
