Little Silver Police Urge Drivers To Clean Snow Off Cars

With snow possibly coming this weekend, Little Silver Police urge drivers to thoroughly clean their cars of the frozen stuff before driving.

LITTLE SILVER, NJ - Police officers are preparing for snow this weekend and so are reminding residents that borough ordinances make it an offense for any person to park, stop, stand or abandon any motor vehicle or obstacle on any borough street during snow-removal activities.

Further, the department warns, the state Motor Vehicle Code indicates that drivers have a duty to make all reasonable efforts to remove accumulated ice or snow from exposed surfaces of the motor vehicle before operating it. That means no snow on the hood, trunk, windshield, windows and roof of the motor vehicle, the cab of a truck, the top of a trailer or semi-trailer being drawn by a motor vehicle and the top of an intermodal freight container being carried by an intermodal chassis.

A person who violates this may be stopped on a street or highway by any law enforcement officer who believes the accumulated ice or snow may pose a threat to persons or property and the operator could be fined between $25 and $75 for any offense, whether or not any snow or ice flew off the vehicle, creating potential hazards.
