Dog Rescued From Madison Dry Well After Four Days Missing

Teddy was rescued on Valentine's Day from the bottom of a dry well under a deck.

MADISON, NJ — It was a sweet Valentine's Day for one Madison family, whose missing dog was rescued by first responders from a dry well under a deck.

Firefighters arrived at the Maple Ave home around 1:50 p.m. on Wednesday after hearing the dog was stuck underneath it. After realizing where the dog was stuck, the specialty Madison Confined Space Team was called in to help.

Rescuers removed slats from the deck to reach the dry well opening. That opening was a challenging, too: it was a half moon shape only 10 inches wide in the middle.

Using a ladder and ropes, a firefighter was lowered down to where the dog was; the firefighter was able to grab the dog and hand him to other firefighters, who in turn handed Teddy back to his owners.

Despite being missing for four days, Teddy was in good spirits.
