Drew University to Distribute Free Tree Seedlings
Free tree seedlings will be distributed to replace trees lost to Superstorm Sandy

Drew University will be distributing free tree seedlings at the university’s Simon Forum and Athletic Center as part of a New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign.
The tree recovery campaign is designed to help communities replace trees that were damaged or destroyed in Superstorm Sandy, through replacement trees in a variety of native species. The trees will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis on Monday, April 20, between noon and 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., according to Drew University.
Included with each seedling is a set of instructions on how to store, care for and plant the tree. “Trees provide great ecosystem services by absorbing carbon dioxide thereby mitigating the effects of climate change,” Christina Notas, campus sustainability coordinator, said in a release from Drew University.

The goal of the tree recovery campaign is to distribute more than 500,000 tree seedlings to New Jersey residents over the next five years, the university said. The campaign is a joint effort with Madison’s Shade Tree Management Board, Drew University, the New Jersey State Forestry Services Community Forestry Program, the State Forest Nursery and numerous other organizations.
