Former Madison Ambulance Corps Volunteer Dies At 87

Giovanina 'Jean' Marano was a longtime resident of Madison, active volunteer.

Giovanina “Jean” L. Marano (nee Puglisi), a longtime Madison resident, died peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family, on Sunday, February 10, 2019. She was 87.

Jean was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 11, 1931 to the late Luigi and Concetta Puglisi. She and her beloved husband, the late Joseph Marano, settled in Madison with their family 67 years ago.

Jean was a woman of great faith in God and was a very active member of St. Vincent Martyr Church. She was also active in the Madison community and gave back by helping others. Jean was a volunteer with the Madison Ambulance Corps for many years and she enjoyed volunteering her time and assistance at bingo games at Pine Acres Nursing Home in Madison. She was also an active member of the American Legion and the Madison Elks Club.

Jean loved her family tremendously and dedicated her life to making life comfortable for them. She loved animals and was an advocate of animal adoption. She rescued her beloved cat, Cali, who she adored and lost recently. Jean’s warm presence and good nature will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her.

Jean is predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Marano; and her son, Anthony Marano. She is survived by one daughter, Connie Marano - Santa Maria and her husband, Basil of Howell; one sister, Grace Luca of Staten Island, NY; two grandchildren, Erica and Christopher; three great grandchildren, Gianna, Luke and Troy; her very dear friends, Lori Williams, Gerry Storino, Dolores Ricci & Anne Shearman.

Funeral services will begin at 9:00AM on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Madison Memorial Home, 159 Main Street, Madison, followed by a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Vincent Martyr Church, Madison. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visitation to celebrate Jean’s life on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 4PM to 8PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in Jean’s memory, which was especially important to her since they treated her great-grandson, Luke, who was born with congenital heart disease.
