A child on a bike was struck on Sunday, according to police.
MADISON, NJ - A child on a bicycle was struck by a car Sunday in what Madison Mayor Robert Conley described as a hit and run.
An eight-year-old child hit by the vehicle was sent to the hospital and was treated and released the same day, officials said. According to Madison Police Lt. John Miscia the accident happened at 3:41 p.m. on Madison Avenue. The road was closed between Elm Street and Kings Road for an investigation late Sunday afternoon.
Conley said he was out Sunday door-to-door campaigning when he head a loud noise, then saw a car coming down Redmond Drive with two flat tires.

"It turned quickly onto Rosemont Avenue, then onto Ardsleigh Drive, before coming to a stop. About the same time, I heard sirens in the distance, so I had a pretty good idea it was a hit-and-run," Conley said. "At that point, I was already on the phone with the Madison police, who asked me to stay on the line and requested I keep an eye on the driver, and let them know if she tried to leave. One police arrived I went back to my task at hand.”
The Morris County Prosecutor's Office said it is involved in the case, however it remains an active investigation and will not be commenting at this time.
