Madison Man Assaults Officers Aiding His Child: Police

Richard Alexander has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault, police said.

HANOVER, NJ - A 51-year-old Madison man was arrested and charged with assaulting first responders trying to help his child on Oct. 13, according to the Hanover Township Police.

Richard Alexander attacked two police officers and an EMS squad member who were responding to a medical aid call in a Whippany home, police said.

According to authorities, during the call Alexander began assaulting the officers, who were rendering aid. Alexander was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault on police officers and one count of aggravated assault on EMS, police said.

He was also charged with resisting arrest and possession of a controlled dangerous substance, police said.

He was transported to the hospital for an evaluation, police said.
