Madison Man Part of Trio Busted in Morristown Drug Deal, Cops Say

Morristown officers were patrolling out of uniform Tuesday morning when suspicious men and a woman caught their attention, police report.

Wrong place, wrong time, and now busted with a crime.

Two men and a woman allegedly conducting a drug deal on the Morristown Green Tuesday morning were doing so in the vicinity of two Morristown Police officers on patrol in plain clothes detail, Lt. Stuart Greer said.

Around 10:40 a.m. officers Scott Weaver and Anthony O’Brien were on patrol but out of uniform targeting quality of life issues, Greer said. While walking on The Green, they observed three suspicious individuals and began to conduct surveillance, Greer said.

While watching the trio – Kenneth Widdis III, 28 of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; Michelle Trasente, 22, of Randolph; and Jeffrey Schermerhorn, 24, of Madison – the officers observed what appeared to be a drug transaction take place, Greer said.

The officers approached the group and continued an investigation, leading to the arrest of all three for various drug offenses.

Widdis was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin); possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute; possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park; possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school; possession of a prescription drug; possession of a hypodermic syringe; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Trasente was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance for allegedly having synthetic marijuana; possession of a hypodermic needle; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Schermerhorn was charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance (heroin); and possession of a hypodermic needle.

Widdis was lodged in Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail and Trasente lodged on $1,000 bail. Schermerhorn was released with a court appearance.
