Madison Mariners Compete at the NJ YMCA 8 & Under Championships

Madison YMCA Mariners participate in the NJ YMCA 8 & Under Championships

Congratulations to all the Madison Mariners 8 & Under Boys and Girls who competed at the NJ YMCA 8 & Under Championships at Raritan Valley Community College February 2nd.

The 8 & Under team had impressive results with most swimmers achieving personal records. The Mariners who participated were Addison Burdorf, Owen Chow, William Dyer, Emily Garlewicz, Julia Jadro, Alessandra Ledon, Lola Morrison, Eleanor Mulligan, Sienna Prael, Vivian Robertson, Carter Smith, Mia Snider, Alexandra Soltis, Matthew Troiano and Samantha Wagner.

The Boys with top finishes included William Dyer (7) who had exceptional races touching 1st in the 25 Yard Fly, 2nd in the 25 Back and 5th in the 25 Free. Carter Smith (8) contributed to the Mariner’s success by placing 1st in the 100 Individual Medley, 5th in the 50 Free and 8th in the 25 Fly. Owen Chow (8) also posted impressive results by finishing 3rd in the 25 Back, 11th in the 50 Free and 12th in the 25 Fly. Matthew Troiano (8) placed 19th in the 25 Back.

The Girls team had many notable top finishes starting with Vivian Robertson (7) touching 4th in the 25 Back, and 5th in the 25 Free and 25 Fly. Alexandra Soltis (7) finished strong placing 5th in the 50 Free, 7th in the 25 Fly and 10th in the 25 Back. Leading the way for the 8-year old girls was Julia Jadro who placed 8th overall in the 50 Free, 25 Back and 25 Fly. Emily Garlewicz (8) finished 11th in the 25 Free & 25 Fly and 16th in the 25 Breast. Lola Morrison (8) earned an impressive 3rd place in the 25 Breast and 9th place in the 100 Individual Medley. Siena Prael (8) finished 11th in the 25 Breast and Alessandra Ledon (8) placed 14th in the 25 Breast.

The Championship Relays are always the most fun events in which to compete and the Mariners did not disappoint! Both the Boys 100 Yard Free and 100 Yard Medley Relays, consisting of Owen Chow, William Dyer, Carter Smith and Matthew Troiano, earned impressive 4th place finishes. The Girls 100 Yard Medley Relay had two Mariners teams representing - Emily Garlewicz, Lola Morrison, Julia Jadro and Vivian Robertson raced to a 6th place finish while Addison Burdorf, Alessandra Ledon, Alexandra Soltis and Mia Snider placed 11th. Later in the day, the girls had an opportunity to race the 100 Free Relay as well. The relay team of Garlewicz, Robertson, Morrison and Jadro placed 6th and Soltis, Wagner, Burdorf and Snider placed 14th.
