Madison Mayor Declares Local State of Emergency

Residents strongly advised to return home, mandatory traffic bans planned, residents should remove cars

Madison Mayor Robert Conley and Emergency Management Coordinator Robert Landrigan signed a local state of emergency that will go into effect at 4 p.m. this afternoon.

The proclamation is designed to help first responders, including local police and fire personnel, maintain order and respond to any emergencies from the historic blizzard that has descended on this New Jersey community.

Under the order, residents are ‘strongly advised’ to remain home and not to travel during the storm.’ The order provides for a plan to enact travel bans on the public.

Parked cars should be removed from public streets as soon as feasible.

The police and fire departments are also empowered to order mandatory evacuations and have the authority to arrest anyone that violates those orders.

Residents should call 973-593-3000 to report downed trees, power lines or blackouts. Reserve 911 for immediate emergencies that risk life or limb.

The borough will close all non-essential government offices on Tuesday and a council meeting scheduled for tonight is rescheduled for Wednesday.

Tuesday garbage and recycling pickup has been rescheduled for Wednesday.
