Madison Student Appointed By NJ-11 Rep. Mikie Sherril

MADISON, NJ — Representative Mikie Sherrill announced that 23 students from New Jersey's 11th Congressional District were appointed and accepted offers to the U.S. service academies, including a student from Madison.

Patrick McCabe is among the list of students who will be attending either the US Naval Academy or the US Military Academy, US Air Force Academy, or US Merchant Marine Academy.

Sherrill hosted a virtual reception to honor the students. She graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1994 and went on to serve as a Sea King helicopter pilot and Russian policy officer in the Navy for almost 10 years.

According to the representative's office, NJ-11 tied for the most appointees to West Point from any other congressional district in the nation, with a total of 11 appointees.

"This year’s students should be given extra acknowledgment after completing part of 11th and most of 12th grade virtually, through unprecedented circumstances during the pandemic," Sherrill said in a statement.
