Madison Participating In Nation's COVID-19 Memorials

The borough encourages residents to light a candle in their windows or ring a bell at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

MADISON, NJ — The Borough of Madison will participate in the COVID-19 memorial taking place throughout the nation at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Landmarks and communities nationwide will come together to remember those lost to the coronavirus.

Madison officials will illuminate the Hartley Dodge Memorial in the color of a candle. Church bells will sound 40 times throughout town to reflect the 400,000 lives lost to the virus in the United States. Each ring also commemorates the 18 Madison residents lost to COVID-19.

The borough encouraged residents to light a candle in their windows or ring a ball at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"This memorial shows the importance of looking back to remember all the lives that we have sadly lost, while also looking forward with hope and a brighter future,” said Mayor Robert H. Conley.

Communities throughout the nation will participate in the memorial at 5:30 p.m. — their local time. Wednesday's presidential inauguration ceremony will feature a lighting of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to honor and remember those who have died. Click here for the event page.
