Madison Residents Could Get $100 Gift Card For Safety Survey

Officials are looking for input via survey in wake of pedestrian's death.

MADISON, NJ - In the wake of the pedestrian death at the end of June, the Madison Mayor and Council are pushing forward in the Street Smart campaign for the fall.

Madison Mayor Robert Conley noted that while the program with TransOptions, Inc. was already in place there is a renewed focus on pedestrian safety since the death.

"This tragedy has made it clear that in this day of distracted driving and activities, this program will be invaluable,” Conley said.

On June 29, Cheon A. Lee, 58, of Chatham turned herself in after leaving the scene of the crash that took the life of a 68-year-old Madison woman. She is due to appear before Judge Robert Hanna in Morristown Monday at 8:30 a.m.

  • Radar signs alerting drivers of their speed have been installed on Rosedale and Greenwood avenues.
  • Crosswalk alert signals have been installed at the intersections of Greenwood Avenue and Brittin Street and Greenwood Avenue and Rosedale Avenue.
  • Replacing older street lights along Main Street
  • Traffic-calming curb “bump-outs” at Lincoln Place and Prospect Street and Greenwood Avenue to slow traffic, and bike lanes.
  • Conley noted that Street Smart is a public education, awareness and behavioral change campaign that uses high visibility enforcement, education, and grassroots public awareness to address pedestrian safety issues.

Ahead of the campaign, residents are being asked to take a moment tocomplete a survey on pedestrian safety in Madison and enter to win a $100 Amazon.com Gift Card from TransOptions, Inc.
