Madison Schools Going Remote Tuesday Due To Inclement Weather

Forecasters project snow and freezing rain, which could make for hazardous travel conditions.

MADISON, NJ — Madison Public Schools will go virtual Tuesday because of expected inclement weather. Forecasters project snow and freezing rain, which could make for hazardous travel conditions.

"Teachers will provide virtual meeting information via Google Classroom and/or email," a district letter said. "Students must participate remotely to receive attendance credit for the school day. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions about their classes. If you have any concerns or special circumstances, please feel free to contact your child's school."

The amount of forecasted snow and sleet continues to decrease, but the National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for Morris County.

Here's the NWS forecast as of 2:30 p.m. Monday:

  • Monday night: A slight chance of snow after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Tuesday: Snow likely before 1pm, then snow and freezing rain likely between 1pm and 3pm, then freezing rain likely after 3pm. Cloudy, with a high near 33. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Tuesday afternoon: Freezing rain likely, mainly before 1am. Cloudy, with a low around 29. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible.
