MADISON, NJ—As part of the plan to reopen this Fall, the Madison Public Schools have issued guidelines for parents and families on how to safely and effectively comply with the mandatory mask policy in effect.

“As the district continues to plan for the reopening of schools,” the statement, from Frank Santora, Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services, “there have been a number of critical components that have been identified as necessary for any potential reopening model. One such component is the need for all students and staff to wear face coverings at all times.”

The guidelines cover topics such as why face coverings are necessary, how to prepare your child to wear a mask in school, and how to help your child develop healthy habits for wearing a face covering. Each section links to resources from the Centers for Disease Control, Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins Medicine, and other major health organizations.

The mask requirement is based on guidance from health officials and the Department of Education, and Santora's statement said families will receive a survey about the face covering issue soon. Parents with questions are asked to contact the district directly.
