NJDEP Issues Air Quality Notification For Madison

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection declared an Ozone Action Day, forecasting unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups across the state today, Friday, May 8.

Light south and southwest winds, mostly sunny skies and warmer temperatures will create unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups, the NJDEP said. Individuals in the sensitive groups, including the very young, the elderly and persons with respiratory disease such as asthma, should avoid strenuous activities during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Additionally, fine particles are forecast to reach the moderate category across New Jersey on Friday.

This weekend, however, Ozone will revert back to the good category. Saturday moderate fine particle levels are forecast in northeast and southwest urban areas of New Jersey. According to the DEP, Sunday, May 10, good air quality will make its way back to the area with partly cloudy skies and increasing onshore flow associated with a sub-tropical system off the Atlantic coast.
