Single-Car Accident Closes Off Part Of Madison's Main St.

A driver hit a stoplight and hydrant, officials said. The street was closed between Madison Ave. and Green Village Rd.

Update: The Main Street westbound lane reopened, officials told Patch. The eastbound lane from Green Village Road to Madison Avenue remains closed as of 4:40 p.m. Tuesday.

MADISON, NJ — A driver crashed into a stoplight and fire hydrant Tuesday afternoon on Main Street, resulting in a road closure in both directions, officials said. The street remains closed between Madison Avenue and Green Village Road as of 2 p.m. Tuesday as officials clear the scene.

The single-car accident occurred at about 1 p.m. Tuesday between Community Place and Village Road. Madison authorities made sure the traffic signal wasn't live before clearing the scene.

Officials are investigating the cause of the crash.
