MADISON, NJ — Sterling Davis went from the rap game to the (humane) trap game. Davis, also known as "TrapKing" quit the music industry to rescue cats. He'll serve as a special guest at the St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center's virtual spring break for kids.

Since childhood, Davis was the only person in his neighborhood who loved cats. One day, while taking a break from the rap group he performed with, Davis saw a posting for a job cleaning litter boxes at his local shelter.

Davis loved working with cats and earned a promotion to an outreach position, where he could focus on trap-neuter-return (TNR), a humane method of controlling cat overpopulation. That's when he decided to fully switch careers from music to cats.

In 2017, Davis started Trapking Humane Cat Solutions, where he focuses on educating on and doing TNR and community cat management. Davis sets to change stereotypes about men in the cat rescue, while also bridging the communication gap between Black communities and predominantly white animal-welfare organizations, his website says.

Davis will speak at the camp April 2. On April 1, the founder of Susie's Senior Dogs will tell campers about the joys of adopting a senior pet. Erin Stanton's organization has amassed more than 570,000 Facebook followers. They highlight specific senior dogs struggling to find a home because of their age.
