Madison, NJ – Summer is just around the corner and registration for the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts (METC) Summer Camp is now open! Our interactive and hands-on summer camps use the museum’s exhibits, collection and building as inspiration for a wide range of art and history-based one and two day camps in July and August. Entering Kindergarten & up in September

Thurs. July 28: Recycled and DIY Art-There is nothing new about re-using the materials we have at home – try out a variety of art projects - from recycled art to making your own paint - that use ordinary household items in creative and different ways.

Tues. & Weds. Aug. 3 & 4: Toys & Games - Have some old-fashioned fun at METC! Try your hand at many games and toys popular in the 1800s, from graces and Jacob’s Ladders to 9-pin bowling. Make and decorate your own toys to take home, including clay marbles and painted tops.

Entering 1st grade & up in September

Weds. July 29: Hidden Treasures - Explore the Hidden Treasures exhibit, then go on a giant scavenger hunt around the METC building, finding some of its other hidden treasures. Along the way there will be some surprise challenges & activities!

Tues. Aug. 24: Dragons, Myths & Fairytales - Get to know the griffin, gargoyles and dragon in the METC building, and the stories behind these mythical creatures. Then let your imagination run wild as you create your own fairy tales and legends.

Entering 2nd grade & up in September

Weds. Aug. 25: Back to School- Get ready for Back-to-School 2021 by experiencing what school was like in the mid-1800s! From learning in a one-room schoolhouse to getting water from the pump outside, the daily life of a student was very different. Discover what it was like to do your lessons on a slate or writing with ink, and enjoy some common recess games.

Entering 3rd grade & up in September

Tues. & Weds. Aug. 11 & 12: Junior Museum Curators- Join us as we explore the art of collecting! Discover how museums use their collections to tell stories and produce exciting exhibits. Try out a variety of crafts, from stenciling to faux stained glass, and be inspired by METC’s displays and building as you create your own mini exhibit.
