MADISON, NJ - Most of the lights are back on, poles replaced and roads reopened but the scars of Friday morning's post-Halloween storm remain throughout Madison and the National Weather Service has dispatched a team to see if a tornado is the culprit.

The National Weather Service office in Mount Holly sent a storm survey team to the Rose City Saturday morning in order to assess the damage left by the storm to see if they can determine what caused the relatively localized pocket of destruction in Morris County.

"The team will be looking for the cause of the damage, straight line wind vs. tornado," officials told Patch. "And the approximate strength of the winds."

According to the National Weather Service, straight-line wind is wind that comes out of a thunderstorm. They are produced by the downward momentum in the downdraft region of a thunderstorm.

A final assessment including results of the survey are expected to be completed this weekend.
