MANALAPAN, NJ - Released by Manalapan police and unedited by Patch, all crimes and arrests from May 12 to May 18.
On Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at approximately 10:25 p.m., a 34-year-old Manalapan Township resident reported receiving harassing and threatening text messages from a 47-year-old Manalapan resident. No complaints were signed as a result of this incident. Patrolman Jeremy Slad handled the incident.
On Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at approximately 10:24 p.m., Patrolman James Guarrino conducted a motor vehicle stop on Smallwood Lane for a motor vehicle violation. The driver, Gerald Moran, a 42-year-old, unmarried, male, self-employed resident of Elmont, New York, was found to have a warrant issued for his arrest by the Nassau County Court. Mr. Moran was arrested and transported to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with being a Furtive from Justice. He was subsequently transported Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending extradition. Patrolman James Guarino was the arresting officer.

On Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at approximately 6:45 p.m., a 38-year-old Manalapan Township resident reported that an unknown actor(s) used the victim’s personal information to file an unemployment claim. There was no monetary loss as a result of this incident. Patrolman Charles Alaimo handled the report.
On Monday, May 17, 2021, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a 61-year-old and a 55-year-old Manalapan Township resident reported they have been receiving harassing text messages from a 40-year-old Jackson, NJ resident. As of this date, no complaints have been signed as a result of this incident. Patrolman Matthew Porricelli handled the report.

On Tuesday, May 17, 2021, at 2:21 p.m., a 63-year-old Manalapan Township resident reported being harassed by a neighbor (identity unknown). No complaints were signed as a result of this incident. Patrolman Reginald Grant took the report.
On Monday, May 17, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., a 39-year-old Manalapan Township resident responded to police headquarters and reported that they were trying to sell items online and the purchaser sent excessive funds in a check. The victim believes the purchaser was going to attempt to receive the difference back before the check bounced. There was no monetary loss to the resident as a result of this incident. Patrolman Anthony Cascella handled the report.
On Monday, May 17, 2021, at 10:09 a.m., a 28-year-old Manalapan Township resident reported that an unknown actor used the victim’s social security number. The victim applied for unemployment and was advised his that his social security number was already in use. Patrolmen Jean Letts handled the incident.
On Sunday, May 16, 2021, at 2:06 p.m., a 62-year-old Manalapan Township resident reported that an unknown actor obtained the victim’s driver’s license information and tried to open an unemployment claim. No monetary loss was incurred as a result of this incident. Patrolman Jeremy Slad handled the report.

On Sunday, May 16, 2021, at 12:25 a.m., an unknown actor(s) damaged a soda machine located within the Manalapan Township Recreation Center. It is believed that this incident occurred sometime during the daytime hours. Patrolman Dennis O’Brien handled the initial report, which is pending further investigation.
On Saturday, May 15, 2021, 6:20 p.m., vandalism at the Manalapan Township Recreation Center was reported to this agency. The investigation revealed that an unknown actor(s) caused damage to a tabletop to a wooden picnic table underneath a pavilion. This incident was believed to have occurred sometime during the afternoon and/or evening hours the night prior. Patrolman Matthew Meyler handled the initial report, which is pending further investigation.
On Friday, May 14, 2021, at 4:40 p.m., a 41-year-old Manalapan Township resident reported that their online Best Buy account was accessed by unknown actor(s) and a fraudulent purchase was made in the amount of $199.99, without their knowledge. The victim contacted Best Buy and their credit card company cancelled the transaction before the item was shipped. Patrolman Matthew Meyler handled the report.
On Friday, May 14, 2021, at 10:47 a.m., a 45-year-old Manalapan resident reported that unknown actor(s) opened up two credit accounts using the victim’s personal information. Patrolman Jeff Emslie handled the report.
On Friday, May 14, 2021, at 8:57 a.m., an employee of the Welsh Farms Convenience Store located at 130 Route 33 in Manalapan reported that an unknown actor left the store with approximately $5,000.00 in cash that had been left on the counter. The subsequent investigation conducted by Detective Bryan Belardo resulted in the arrest of Salvatore G. Piro, a 50-year-old, retired, married, male resident of Manalapan for the theft. Mr. Piro was processed and released on a summons pending court and the stolen money was recovered. Patrolman Ryan Brady handled the initial report.
On Thursday, May 13, 2021, at 11:23 a.m., a 39-year-old Manalapan Township resident reported paying a contractor $2,000.00 for a deposit for home repairs on April 26, 2021 that were not completed. As of this date no complaints have been signed as a result of this incident. Patrolman Jeffrey Emslie handled the report.
On Thursday, May 13, 2021, at approximately 9:53 a.m., a 70-year-old Manalapan Township resident reported that unknown actor(s) scratched his vehicle that was parked on Arrowwood Road in Manalapan Township. Patrolman Bart Mattaliano handled the report.
On Thursday, May 12, 2021, at 5:11 p.m., a 37-year-old Manalapan Township resident reported that an unknown actor sent them a threatening text message and demanded money be sent from the victim. The victim suffered no monetary loss as a result of this incident. Patrolman Sean McCarthy handled the report.
On Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at approximately 8:44 p.m., Manalapan Township Recreation Center personnel reported that an unknown actor(s) pulled a gutter/leader off the snack bar roof in the Dryer lot sometime between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Patrolman Charles Alaimo handled the initial report, which is pending further investigation.
On Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at approximately 12:14 p.m., a 68-year-old Manalapan Township resident responded to Manalapan Headquarters to report that their identification was fraudulently used in attempt to file a false unemployment claim with the State Department of Labor. After the Department of Labor contacted her employer and learned that the victim was currently working, the claim was denied. Patrolman Reginald Grant handled the investigation report.
On Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at approximately 10:40 a.m., Patrolman Kyle Williams conducted a motor vehicle stop on Wilson Ave for a motor vehicle violation. The driver, Priscila Silva, a 31-year-old, unmarried, female, resident of Elizabeth, NJ, who is employed as a plumber, was found to have a warrant that was issued for her arrest by the Cranford Municipal Court in the amount of $89.00. Ms. Silva was arrested and transported to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters where she was processed and released after posting bail. Patrolman Kyle Williams was the arresting officer.
On Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at approximately 9:00 a.m. Manalapan Township Recreation Center personnel reported that an unknown actor(s) damaged a sink and a bathroom stall wall in the men’s bathroom. Patrolman Jeffrey Emslie handled the initial report, which is pending further investigation.
