Battleground Historical Society 'Pot Luck' Dinner at Englishtown's Village Inn
Matawan historian John Savolaine will be the speaker.

The Battleground Historical Society is hosting an Installation of Officers Covered Dish Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Village Inn in Englishtown.
John Savolaine, the MA of the Matawan Historical Society, will be the guest speaker at the event. Savolaine has a fascination with cemeteries and their history. He has traveled all around the world to visit famous cemeteries including Rose Hill Cemetery, Arlington Cemetery, King Tut’s Tomb in Egypt, the catacombs in Italy and the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, France.
Currently, Savolaine is retired, but he was previously a history teacher and a middle school principal in Tinton Falls. Now he uses him time to research Matawan history and he is even a member of the borough’s Historic Sites Commission, a member of the Rose Hill Cemetery board, and a docent at the borough’s mansion.
